A swimming pool podium, also known as a starting block or swim platform, is an elevated platform located at the edge of a competitive swimming pool, typically at the deep end. It is used by swimmers to gain a powerful start at the beginning of a race.

Podiums are usually made from sturdy, non-slip materials like stainless steel or reinforced plastic and are designed to support the weight of a swimmer as they prepare to dive. The top surface is often textured or coated with a non-slip material to prevent slipping. The platform is typically raised about 50 centimeters (20 inches) above the water surface, with adjustable handles or grips on the sides to aid swimmers during backstroke starts.

Modern swimming pool podiums may also include features like a track start wedge, which allows swimmers to position one foot further back for a more explosive launch, and integrated timing systems that automatically record the swimmer’s start time. The design and placement of the podium are regulated by competitive swimming organizations to ensure uniformity and fairness in races.
